Chapter 4
"I seen hunderds of men come by on the road an' on the rancher, with their bindles on their back an' that same damn thing in their heads. Hunderds of them. They come, and' they quit an' go on; and' every damn one of 'em's got a little piece of land in his head" (74).

Chapter 4 Summary
At nighttime, Lennie goes to the barn to visit the puppies. Crooks, the negro stable buck who lives in the barn, is surprised to see Lennie. Crooks questions Lennie and is at first hesitant to let Lennie in the barn. Crooks teases Lennie by asking him what would he do if George wouldn't come back. Lennie is angered to the point that it almost seem threatening. Candy finds Lennie in the barn and soon joins the conversation between Lennie and Crooks. Lennie and Candy discuss their plan to Crooks. Crooks tries to convince them that their dream of owning a piece of land will never come true. Curley's wife comes to the barn looking for Curley. Candy tells Curley's wife that he broke his hand. Lennie tells Curley's wife that his hand got broken by the machine. But Curley's wife knows that Lennie is lying about Curley breaking his hand from the machine.

My Reaction
My reaction to chapter four was questioning about Lennie stability. It was scary to see Lennie act like crazed when Crooks was teasing him. It seem like was going to harm someone.
